About

This blog is essentially the reincarnation of my former business and livelyhood.  “The Fixer” was the name of my contracting business which I operated successfully for 10 years before my wife and I decided our lives needed just a little upheaval.  So we sold the business and our house, and returned to Seattle from the sunny desert of New Mexico.  We traded the sun for rain, and a fully remodeled home for a run down old shack with “charm” and “potential.”  And all that happened on the eve of the financial melt down.  What were we thinking right?

The plot thickens.  The blog header picture is “moving in day,” which turned out to be “demolition” day- moving in day didin’t happen for quite a while.  And that is what this blog is about; it tells the tale of our attempts to faithfully restore our “shack” to something resembling it’s original construction while also trying to resettle, find new jobs, change careers, and maintain our sanity.  Needless to say, we have a shoestring budget and will have to do most of the work ourselves, so this house will be a work in progress (and subject matter for the blog) for many years to come.

I will be using each project, step, problem, set-back, progress, and accomplishment as spring board for a story.  My hope is that those of you who stumble upon this blog find it entertaining, informative and useful too.
